The Fruits of the Spirit: Peace
Devotion No. 4
September 2009
Galatians 5:22- "The Fruit of
the Spirit is Peace…"
Peace… There are two meanings
of this beautiful word… and before we can understand the one meaning we must
understand the other first. The first meaning of peace in the word of God is to
have peace with God. We must have peace with God before we can ever experience
the peace of God or produce peace. Having peace with God can only come from the
Lord Jesus. It’s through the payment he paid for us on the cross of
So after we have obtained peace
with God we can experience the peace of God. The peace of God is something that
we need daily and something that we can have whenever it is needed. We need
this peace when we’re in the midst of a stormy trial… or when we’re in the
midst of trouble. We need this peace when we have no clue what to do with our
life and when we have daily questions about what to do in situations. It’s
given to us whenever we need it as long as we keep our focus on God. Isaiah
26:3 says, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee: because
he trusteth in thee." If we keep our mind on him he will give us the peace that
is needed. When we stay in him and we keep our hearts and minds on him that
peace is there (Phil. 4:7,9). When you have things in your life that you’re not
sure about, he will reveal them to you because he is not the author of
confusion, but of peace, he will not leave you in the dark about your life, he
wants you to know what he has planned for you (1 Cor. 14:33).
Having peace, whether it is the
peace of God or having peace with God, is simply the sacrifice of trust. You’re
making yourself put trust in God. Trusting that He will take care of you and
that he will always be there for you in every aspect of your life. So to obtain
this fruit of the Spirit, you must place ALL of your trust in Him. And keep
your mind and heart completely on Him.
Have you trusted Him today with
your entire heart? Please remember that you have broken the Law of God. It was
with that one lie…something you took that didn’t belong to you…lustful thoughts…taking
God’s name in vain…dishonoring our parents…One broken Law is all it took to not
have this PEACE I have been talking about. Can you imagine the person who sets
in jail day after day knowing they broke the law, and judgment has rained down
on them for the crime they committed? There cannot have a real experience of
peace.
This is what we must examine in
our own lives. We have broken the law of God, and will be separated for all
eternity. I suppose we can look at it like our eternal jail sentence. A
sentence that can NEVER be reserved in eternity. You must trust Christ now,
while there is HOPE of a Saviour on this side of Heaven, and Hell.
It is a simple act of trusting
in Jesus like you would trust a parachute to save your life. If you jump out of
a plane at 35,000 feet the thing that will save your is the parachute. You will
have put your complete faith and trust in it to save you from the sure death.
This is the "TYPE OF FAITH," I am
talking about. Someday all of us will take the jump. That Jump will be death.
Will you have strapped the LORD JESUS CHRIST to the heart of your soul before
the jump? I can tell you that I can sleep like a baby tonight knowing that I
have found peace with God through the suffering of His dear Son. Please say it
this way,
"LORD JESUS I am a sinner…I
have broken your law, and understand that without you I will take a leap into
Hell for all eternity. I want to put my complete faith, and trust into your
care, so that when the day comes, that I leave this world; I will spend
eternity with you in Heaven. Not because of what I have done, but because of what you did for me at
the Cross over 2000 years ago! Save me from Hell, and forgive me for breaking
your laws. My faith rests only in you…IN JESUS NAME I ASK THESE THINGS…AMEN!!!!!!!!!!
